Prof. Dr. Joaquim M. Alonso is an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC), Portugal. His professional career began as an Assistant at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (1995–1998), followed by terms as Assistant (1998–2000) and Auxiliary Professor (2000–2023) at IPVC. He earned his PhD in statistics and information management (2015) from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. His main contributions are related to his research interests: (1) geoinformatics technologies, systems, and infrastructure development (tools); (2) complex and adaptive socio-ecological systems analysis (methods); (3) capacity-building for individuals, organizations, and territories (organization); (4) observation/monitoring/evaluation processes (process analysis); (5) innovative governance in smart rural areas (systems optimization).
