Luca Toti is a lecturer and researcher specializing in liver and kidney transplants at the Department of Surgical Sciences of the University of Rome Tor Vergata and a surgeon at the Hepatobiliary Surgery and Transplant Unit of the Tor Vergata Polyclinic. Dr Toti completed a PhD in transplant surgery in 2012 and a specialization in general surgery in 2007. He is a lecturer of General Surgery on the degree course in Medicine and Surgery of the Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio University in Tirana, Albania. Since 2007, he has been a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (FEBS) in Transplant Surgery, UEMS. During his international appointment, Dr Toti worked as a Surgical Research Fellow and Locum Registrar in the Liver Transplant Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, United Kingdom, from 2005 to 2008. Since 2021, he has been the Chair of the Educational Committee of the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT). He has authored over 60 publications in leading international scientific journals on various aspects of liver and kidney transplantation, including organ transplant tolerance, immunosuppressive therapy, predictive factors in liver transplantation, and innovative techniques in the perfusion of abdominal organs during multi-organ transplantation. Dr Toti has also been a speaker at numerous international conferences and has organized numerous training courses on behalf of ESOT, including Hesperis, Academia, and ETFW.
