John Shaw is a Hepatobiliary Surgeon, currently working at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Canada. He previously served as the assistant Program Director in General Surgery. His undergraduate training, General Surgery Residency, and Hepatobiliary Fellowship were all completed in South Africa at the University of Cape Town before emigrating to Canada with his family in 2009. He was appointed as the Division Head for General Surgery in 2017. He obtained an MBBCh at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1991, an FCS (SA) at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 2004, a Surgical Gastroenterology (Hepatobiliary) at the College of Medicine of South Africa in 2006, an MMed (Surg), University of Cape Town South Africa. in 2007, and a FRCSC, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada, in 2013.
Adnan Zaidi graduated from the Aga Khan University Medical College, Karachi in 1994. He completed his training in Internal Medicine at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, and Medical Oncology and Hematology training at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee WI. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He previously worked with Eastern Health and Memorial University, St. John’s, NL. Adnan joined the Saskatoon Cancer Center in 2013 as a medical oncologist. His areas of interest are gastrointestinal oncology and thoracic oncology. He is also part of the Saskatoon Cancer Center Clinical trial group. He has held several research grants. In addition to patient care, he is committed to medical education and is involved in teaching internal medicine to Medical Oncology residents at the Cancer Center.
Haji Ibrahim Chalchal is an Associate Professor in Medical Oncology at the Department of Medicine. He has been working as a Medical Oncologist and Hematologist at Allan Blair Cancer Center, Regina, since January 2000. He received his medical degree from Dow Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan, in 1990. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Woodhull Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. Subsequently, he did his Medical Oncology/Hematology Fellowship at State University of New York at Brooklyn, USA. He also did a stem cell transplant fellowship at University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA. He currently holds subspecialty certifications in all three areas. His areas of interest in oncology include breast, GI, and CNS malignancies. In hematology, his areas of interest include acute leukemias and high-grade lymphomas. He has a keen interest in clinical research. He is well published in peer review journals with several practice-changing publications.
Dr. Shahid Ahmed, MD, PhD, FRCPC, is a medical oncologist Professor of Oncology at the University of Saskatchewan. He also holds the position of Medical Director of Academic at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Dr. Ahmed’s areas of expertise are in breast and gastrointestinal malignancies and population health science. Dr. Ahmed graduated from the Dow Medical University of Health Sciences, Karachi, in 1996, and completed his training in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, in 2003. He earned his PhD in Community and Population Health Science from the University of Saskatchewan in 2016. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He joined the Saskatoon Cancer Center in 2003. Beyond patient care, he is dedicated to medical education and research, leading clinical trials, population-based cohort studies, and health services research in breast and gastrointestinal cancer. He is the lead or co-author of more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is the editor-in-chief of Current Oncology and holds several research grants. Additionally, he is involved in various local and national committees related to patient care, medical education, and research, and has served as a continuing professional development educator for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
