Dr. Lee J. Martin received his Ph.D. in Physiology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1986. He is a Professor of Pathology in the Division of Neuropathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has secondary appointments as a Professor of Neuroscience and Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. His research focuses on cell death signaling and connectome-wide vulnerability in acute brain injury, such as cerebral ischemia, and chronic neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. His goal is the identification of molecular targets and therapeutics for neuroprotection. DNA damage-induced neural cell death, mitochondrial pathobiology, proteinopathy, and the proteasome are major focuses in his work. He is a co-investigator in the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and Director of the Graduate Training Program in Pathobiology at Johns Hopkins. He is also a teacher of medical students and graduate students.
