Dr. Hiroki Shinkai is a Principal Scientist at the National Institute of Animal Health, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Tsukuba, Japan. He received his PhD degree in Applied Bioscience at Kyoto University in 2006. He is currently conducting extensive research into the impact of diversity in immune-related genes in pigs on disease at the genetic, cellular, animal, and population levels. His research interests include swine genes; DNA markers; pattern recognition receptors; genome editing; cell engineering; population genetics.

Prof. Hirohide Uenishi is a Manager at the Institute of Agrobiological Sciences, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Tsukuba, Japan. He is also a visiting professor at Tohoku University. He received his PhD in Science at Kyoto University in 1998. Furthermore, Prof. Hirohide Uenishi is working on the projects related to the genetic improvement of disease resistance in pigs. He has professional memberships for the Japanese Society for Immunology (JSI) and the Molecular Biology Society of Japan. He is also a council member of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Science. His research interests include comparative immunology; immunogenetics of non-human, non-rodent vertebrates; pig genomics (EST, cDNA cataloguing, genome sequencing, genome database); pig immunogenetics.
