Prof. Dr. Karen Bohmwald studied biochemistry at the Universidad Andrés Bello and did her PhD work on molecular genetics and microbiology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2011 to 2017). She worked on her postdoctoral fellowship in microbiology and neuroimmunology (2018 to 2020). She was a member of Dr. Kalergis' laboratory and the Millennium Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy. Actually, she is an assistant professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Chile. She has been focused on the immune system's role and how infections with respiratory viruses impact the central nervous system. Her main interest in this area is based on understanding how infections by respiratory viruses can generate consequences that go unnoticed at the central nervous system level and what the immune system's role is in this phenomenon.
