Serafino Fazio, M.D., was born in Naples (Italy) on February 5, 1950. He received his scientific high school diploma in June 1968. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University Federico II of Naples, School of Medicine, on December 21, 1974. He specialized in Internal Medicine and in Cardiology. He worked first as a university researcher and, later, as an associate professor of Internal Medicine at the University Federico II of Naples, School of Medicine, from July 1975 to July 2012. He is now retired. He is the author of more than 175 papers, published in prestigious journals, including: The New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, The Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation, Biomedicines, The International Journal of Cardiology, etc. He was particularly interested in the interaction between hormones and the heart, heart failure treatment, insulin resistance as risk factor, metabolic syndrome, nutraceutical substances and, recently, in COVID-19 treatments. His h-hindex, according to Google Scholar, is 48.
