Professor Tony Townsend has worked all around the world. In 2003, after more than 25 years at Monash University in Australia, he worked at Florida Atlantic University in the United States, then at the University of Glasgow in the UK. On his return to Australia in 2013, he accepted part-time positions at both the University of Tasmania and Griffith University and continues to work as an adjunct professor for both after his retirement at the end of 2018. His published work includes 13 books and over 300 articles, chapters, and conference papers (90 keynotes), in the areas of leadership, school effectiveness, school improvement, teacher education, and community education and development. He has worked with Education Departments in all Australian states, and internationally in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the South Pacific. He has been a visiting professor in the USA; South Africa; Canada; Macau; Malaysia; the Czech Republic; and the Republic of Ireland. He has been President of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI), and the International Council on Education for Teaching (ICET). He presented 250 professional workshops or presentations and has consulted for agencies including UNESCO and the Commonwealth Education Trust in the UK and Governments in Mongolia, Pakistan, Chile and Cyprus. His most recent book is called Leading Learning in Schools: Instructional Leadership and Leadership for Learning, published by Palgrave in 2019.
