Christos Lionis, MD, PhD, FRCGP(Hon), FESC, FWONCA, is a researcher and academician with a strong interest in primary care and public health. Since March 1995, Christos has served at the School of Medicine, University of Crete (UoC), as a Professor of General Practice and Primary Health Care until August 2022. He currently holds the title of Professor Emeritus at UoC. Christos has been a principal investigator and collaborator on numerous projects funded by the EU and international agencies. He also plays an editorial and advisory role with several international journals. Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Board of various professional organizations, including the WONCA Working Party on Mental Health, where he serves as Chair. Christos served as a member of the European Commission Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health, and he currently serves on the Specific Advisory Group of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Since 2022, he has also been a member of the National Committee for Mental Health Reform and Bioethics and Biotechnology.
Sven Francque obtained his MD at the University of Antwerp,
Belgium, in 1994 and was subsequently trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology
and hepatology at the Antwerp University Hospital, Belgium, and at the
Department of Hepatology of the Beaujon Hospital, Clichy, France. He is
currently Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the
Antwerp University Hospital and full professor of gastroenterology and
hepatology at the University of Antwerpen, with a longstanding interest and
expertise in the field of Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatohepatitis.
Juan Manuel Mendive trained at the University of Navarra and
in Barcelona, where he completed his PhD. He is a Family Physician at Institut
Català de la Salut, a member of the Spanish Primary Care Research Network
(RedIAAP), and an active family physician. His interests include
gastroenterology and mental health education in primary care. His involvement
in international groups ranges from WONCA, where he has been the Spanish
representative, to the ESPCG, where he is a founder member of the steering
group.
Jean Muris was
appointed to Full Professorship in 2014, initially as a Strategic
Chair in Asthma and COPD in Primary Care at the research school CAPHRI, but this was transferred to a key domain Chair position in General Practice in 2017. After completing his studies in medicine at the
University of Maastricht in 1983, he immediately continued his education in
General Practice Training and primary care research. In 1985, he participated
in an experimental research doctoral program that the Dutch College of General
Practitioners recognized. During this time and extending to 1993 he also worked
as a General Practitioner, serving health care center Withuis in Venlo and from
1993 until 2023 as an Academic GP for Health Care Centre Geulle. His PhD
completed in 1993. Currently, his research focuses on educational research in
primary care specialist training and methods to help stop smoking and manage
respiratory diseases, with a particular emphasis on asthma and COPD. He is a
board member of the national expertise group of GPs on asthma/COPD and holds a seat on the
board of Governors of the Netherlands School of Public Health and Care. He is
an associate editor at Huisarts & Wetenschap, the Dutch journal for General Practice and at the European Journal of General Practice.
George Papatheodoridis is a Professor in Medicine and
Gastroenterology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and
Director of the Academic Gastroenterology Department and Liver Transplantation
Unit of “Laiko” General Hospital of Athens, Greece. He is also President of the
Hellenic Transplant Organization and the Hellenic Foundation of
Gastroenterology and Nutrition. He received his MD at the National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens. He was a member of the EASL Scientific
Committee/Governing Board and president of the Hellenic Association for Study
of Liver.
Emmanouil Symvoulakis is an Associate Professor of Primary
Healthcare, University of Crete, Greece, MD, PhD General Practitioner, Director
of the Labor Clinic, Department of Social Medicine, School of Medicine,
University of Crete. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of
Naples (FEDERICO II), Italy, in 1999. He is qualified in General Practice/
Family Medicine. He defended his PhD thesis at the Medical School of the University
of Crete in 2007. He is the author of several original papers published in
international journals. He is currently involved in national and international
research projects at the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine of the University
of Crete.
