Dr. Stephanie Sánchez-Torres was born in Mexico City. She has a degree in experimental biology from the Metropolitan Autonomous University, a Master's of health science from the National Polytechnic Institute, and a PhD in biological and health sciences from the Autonomous Metropolitan University. Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Mexican Institute of Social Security. She is also part of the National System of Level 1 Researchers. She has been a member of the Society for Neuroscience since 2011 and of the Mexican Society of Physiological Sciences since 2016. She has published 13 scientific research articles in high-impact journals and one book chapter, in addition to presenting scientific papers at national and international congresses and taking various updating and training courses.
Dr. Alfonso Fernández-Mayoralas is a research professor at the CSIC. He obtained the title of Doctor in Chemical Sciences in 1987 from the Autonomous University of Madrid with an Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Subsequently, he carried out postdoctoral work at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1990, he joined the Institute of General Organic Chemistry as a senior scientist at the CSIC. He is a founding partner of the company LACTEST S.L., established in 2003, aimed at developing and marketing a new diagnostic test for lactose intolerance. Between November 2004 and May 2006, he was the Coordinator of the Chemical Science and Technologies Area of the CSIC. He has been President of the Centro de Química Orgánica "Lora-Tamayo"-CSIC (2020-2022) and since March 2019 to July 2023 the Director of the Instituto de Química Orgánica General.CSIC. His scientific activity is carried out in the chemistry of carbohydrates, aimed at biological and medical studies.
