Dr. Mario Romani is a translational scientist, currently holding the position of R&D Innovation Research Senior Scientist at Haleon, focusing on natural solutions to improve human health. He graduated in Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies from both the University of Bologna and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2016. He completed his doctoral thesis at the Nestlé Chair in Energy Metabolism Laboratory at the EPFL in 2021, working on strategies to promote the healthy aging of musculoskeletal and nervous systems through activation of mitochondrial quality control. During this time, he also served as communication officer for the Association of Doctoral Students in Life Sciences. In the period 2021–2022, he continued his research with the Service of Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Rehabilitation at the University of Lausanne Hospital (CHUV), complementing his preclinical background with clinical knowledge. During this time, he closely collaborated with the Laboratory of Rheumatology at the CHUV. Later, from 2022 to 2024, he served as a preclinical scientist at OM Pharma, where he applied his knowledge of mitochondrial metabolism to ameliorate therapeutic approaches for people suffering from chronic respiratory or urinary tract pathologies and infections. He recently joined Haleon to further expand the applications of his research. Throughout his career, his research has focused on mitochondrial metabolism, cellular and mitochondrial stress responses, and aging.
