Dr. Ryno Laubscher is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Stellenbosch University. His current research fields are fluid systems CFD modelling and the application of scientific machine learning techniques such as physics-informed neural networks to model forward and inverse mode thermal-fluid problems. After graduating with a BEng Mechanical degree at Stellenbosch University in 2009, he undertook his post-graduate MScEng mechanical degree in 2010. In 2012 he graduated cum laude and shortly after graduation joined John Thompson as a mechanical engineer. In 2014, Ryno started his PhD research in CFD modelling of advanced turbulence-chemistry interaction with the use of deep learning-based chemical kinetics, while still working full-time at John Thompson. Ryno graduated with his PhD in 2016. Prior to joining Stellenbosch University, he worked for Enexio GmbH (Germany), John Thompson Boiler and Environmental Solutions (South Africa) and University of Cape Town.
