Author Biographies

Professor Enrico DEL RE holds a Dr.Ing. Degree in electronics engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, 1971. In 1986 he was appointed Professor at the Department of Information Engineering until his retirement in 2017. During the academic year 1987-1988 he spent a nine-month period of research at the European Space Research and Technology Centre of the European Space Agency, The Netherlands, on the integration of satellite and terrestrial communication systems. His main research interests are digital signal processing, mobile and satellite communications, next-generation internet, network security and privacy, with more than 300 papers published in international journals and conferences. In 1992, he was nominated member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He was President of the Italian Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT) in the period 2011-2017, having served before as Director in the period 2005-2008. He was Director of the Department of Information Engineering (DINFO) of the University of Florence, Italy in the period 2013-2016. In the period 2013-20 he served as Italian Expert of the EU Horizon2020 Programme for the ICT Committee appointed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. For two years (2021-22) he was a Member of the IEEE European Public Policy Committee (EPPC) Working Group on ICT. He is a Senior Life Member of the IEEE.
