Prof. Sheng Quan Xie received a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2002. He joined The University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand, in 2003, and became a Chair Professor in (Bio)mechatronics in 2011. Since 2017, he has been the Chair of Robotics and Autonomous Systems at the University of Leeds, Leeds, UK. He has authored or co-authored eight books, 15 book chapters, and over 480 international journals and conference papers. His current research interests include medical and rehabilitation robots and advanced robot control. He is an Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Fellow of Engineering New Zealand, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
