Somaya Al-Maadeed received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, U.K., in 2004. She is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Qatar University, and the Computer Vision and AI Research Group Coordinator. She enjoys excellent collaboration with national and international institutions and industry. She is a Principal Investigator of several funded research projects generating approximately five million. She has published extensively in the field of pattern recognition and delivered workshops on teaching programming for undergraduate students. She has attended workshops on higher education strategy, assessment methods, and interactive teaching. She has received numerous awards, including the Best Poster Award at QU Research Forum (2020), the KATARA Inventor Award (2020), the Barzan Best Poster Award for Faculties and Students at QU Research Forum (2019), and the Best Demo Award at QU Research Forum (2019).
