Prof. Dr. Giorgos Bamias is a Professor of Gastroenterology at the School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He is currently the Head of the GI-Unit of the 3rd Academic Department of Internal Medicine, Sotiria Hospital in Athens, Greece. He obtained his Ph.D. with Honors from the same University from the School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece in 2000. From 2006–2017 he worked as a Gastroenterologist at the Greek NIH at Laikon Hospital. In 2017 he was appointed Faculty of the School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and became Full Professor in 2022. He received various Awards, including the Research Excellence in GI and Liver (REGAL) Award and the Young Investigator Award from the International Cytokine Society. He has been the National Representative for Greece at the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO) for the years 2017–2023. He served as the President of the Hellenic Group for the study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (EOMIFNE) between 2000–2023. He has been a member of the Senior Research Awards Committee for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), SINCE 2017. His main clinical and research focus is mucosal immunology and more particularly the immunological characterization of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, namely Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He has 150 publications with more than 8000 citations.

Prof. Dr. George Kolios is a Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology in the Department of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace, Alexandroupolis, Greece. He obtained his Ph.D. in gastroenterology from the School of Medicine at the University of Athens, Greece (1992) and pharmacology from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Bath, UK (1998). From 1998 to 2000, he was a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, and a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Bath, UK. In 2001, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology in the School of Medicine at the University of Crete and Visiting Professor in Pharmacology at the University of Bath, UK. From 2008 to 2022, he was Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the Laboratory of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine at the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He was a member of the Scientific Board of Approvals of the Greek National Organization for Medicines (2008–2013). Since 2015, he has been a member of the Pharmacology Department at the Scientific Institute of the Greek General Medical Council. From 2017 to 2019, he was President of this Board. He is an experienced clinical gastroenterologist and a very productive research scientist, with extensive work in immunopharmacology, mucosal immunology, and fibrosis, mainly focused on intestinal inflammation and inflammatory bowel diseases.
