Dr. Nikolaos D. Andritsos is an Assistant Professor of Food Safety at the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Patras, Greece. He graduated from the Department of Food Science and Technology at the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, where he completed his MSc and PhD studies in Food Quality Management & Hygiene Assurance Systems and Food Microbiology & Safety, respectively, after being awarded two merit-based full-time scholarships by the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation for post-graduate and doctoral studies. His teaching disciplines include Food Safety, Food Hygiene, Food Law, Technology & Quality Control of Animal-Originated Foods, and Epidemiology of Foodborne Diseases, while his research interests are focused on the detection and control of foodborne pathogenic bacteria along with their pheno- and genotypic microbial responses by using molecular and culture-dependent methods and techniques. Dr. Andritsos is also interested in the antibiotic susceptibility testing of bacterial pathogens isolated from foods, whereas his research extends to the study of the hygienic conditions prevailing in the domestic setting and the respective food safety practices followed by consumers in the home kitchen environment. He has more than 15 years of research experience, participating from 2007 in national and international competitive research and private initiative programs which have received a total funding of more than 3,500,000 €.
