Alexander N. Freiberg is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He received a Diploma in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Physical Biochemistry from the University of Potsdam, Germany in 2000 and 2005, respectively, then was a Postdoctoral
Fellow in Arbovirology, Structural Virology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, TX from 2005 to 2009. He is also a member of the American Society of Virology, the Microscopy Society of America, and the American Society of Microbiology. One of his main research interests is in understanding the molecular mechanisms by which emerging RNA viruses cause encephalitis and hemorrhagic fever diseases. In addition, another project focuses on understanding the structure and assembly of high-containment classified viruses, with a major focus on bunyaviruses using cryo-electron microscopy and biophysical
techniques.
Rick Nichols is currently the Vice President of Nonclinical and Analytics at Public Health Vaccines LLC. He received his BS degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his MA from Boston University. Prior to joining Public Health Vaccines LLC, he served at Crozet BioPharma LLC, NewLink Genetics / BioProtection Systems, Bavarian Nordic A/S and Acambis Inc. He brings over 30 years experience in non-clinical vaccine research, analytical development, analytical validation, and the GCLP testing of clinical trial specimens and analytics supporting the manufacturing and control of biological products. His emphasis is in the field of prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines against infectious diseases and has had substantial involvement in the licensure of seven vaccines.
