Jin Xiao earned her DDS (2003) and PhD in oral microbiology (2009) from West China College of Stomatology, Sichuan University, China. She completed her last two years of PhD study (2007-2009) in the Center of Oral Biology, University of Rochester, followed by one year of postdoctoral training in the Center of Oral Biology. She also completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency (2013) at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, University of Rochester, and a General Practice Residency (2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital. She has a background in oral microbiology and translational research, and she intends to develop a career of bridging clinical practice and translational research and translating research findings into innovative strategies targeting treating biofilm-related infection disease. Additionally, she won first place in the American Association for Dental Research Hatton-Competition Award, which is the most prestigious competitive award for young investigators conducting dental/oral research in the U.S./Canada. She is currently interested in investigating the virulence and three-dimensional structure of oral and peri-implant multispecies biofilms.
Hans Malmstrom is Chair of Eastman Dental's General Dentistry Division and Program Director of its residency program. He has significant clinical and research experience in many areas, but his focus is on comprehensive care, including root canals, gums and tissue, and ways to restore the comfort, appearance, and function of the mouth when patients have missing or damaged teeth (prosthodontics). He also has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry (porcelain veneers, crowns, and composite bonding) and implant dentistry.
