Author Biographies

Polyxeni Mangoulia is Assistant Professor of Psychiatric Nursing and Psychopharmacology at the Faculty of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece (Laboratory of “Counseling Nursing Support and Psychoeducation of Patients with Mental Illness and Caregivers”). She is a member of several scientific associations and the President of the Liaison Mental Health Nursing Sector at the Hellenic Regulatory Body of Nurses. She has several publications, and she has extensive experience in teaching and working in various clinical settings. Her PhD thesis was the first study focusing on Secondary Traumatic Stress in Greece. She holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Liaison Psychiatry: Integrative Care of Physical and Mental Health, Medicine School, NKUA, and an MSc in Management and Administration of Health Care Services, Nursing Department, NKUA. She has specialized in Liaison Psychiatric Nursing, and she is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy: Theory and Clinical Practice, and in Psychoeducation: Personal, family, and group interventions (Medicine School, NKUA). She holds two nursing specialties, a mental health specialty, and an emergency and critical care specialty. Research interests: Secondary Traumatic Stress, Burnout, Resilience, Spirituality, Psychiatric Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Liaison Mental Health Nursing, Psychopharmacology, Substance Use Disorders, Quality of Life, Nursing Education and Administration.

Evgenia Vlachou is currently a Professor in the Department of Nursing at the University of West Attica, Athens, Greece. She has been employed by TEI of Athens in the Nursing Department for many years. She completed her Ph.D. studies in Gynecological Endocrinology from the Nursing Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She is a member of the Hellenic Nurses Association, the National Nurses Association of Greece, the European Society of Endocrinology, and the Foundation of European Nurses in Diabetes. Her research interests are Endocrinology, Diabetes Nursing, Maternity, Gynecological Nursing, and Nursing Education.
Ioannis Ilias obtained his MD and PhD at the University of Athens, Greece, and trained in Endocrinology in Greece and the USA as a fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. At the National Institutes of Health, he extensively studied patients with Cushing's syndrome and pheochromocytoma and also trained in Clinical Pharmacology. Upon his return to Greece, he served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Patras Medical School. He is currently the director of the Department of Endocrinology at Ippokration Hospital, Athens, Greece, and is also active in teaching at both under- and postgraduate levels.
