Elena Gordo, PhD, is Full Professor at the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M), co-leader of the Group of Powder Technology (GTP) and fellow of the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA). She obtained a degree in Mining Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and a PhD in Materials Engineering, which she developed at the National Center for Metallurgical Research in Madrid (CENIM, CSIC). She has conducted research at the University of Nottingham, University of Cambridge (UK), and University of Queensland (Australia). Her research is in the realm of powder technology, in particular the design and development of metallic and metal–ceramic materials. Titanium alloys and sustainable cermets with Co-free alternative compositions are her most active subjects currently. She is also involved in the surface modification of these materials for biomedical or high-temperature applications and the study of their corrosion and wear behavior. At the moment she is the principal researcher in a project aiming to increase the performance/cost of PEM electrolizers for the production of green H2 and two other projects in the field of hard materials. She has supervised 14 PhD students (2 more under development), and more than 50 bachelor’s and master’s degree theses.
