Prof. Dr. Anna Czlonkowska finished Medical Academy in Warsaw. Since 1985, she has been employed in the 2nd Department of Neurology in the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw (until the end of 2013 as the head of the department). Her main interests are stroke (epidemiology, treatment, and rehabilitation), neuroimmunology (multiple sclerosis and local and systemic immunities in neurodegeneration), and Wilson’s disease. She has passed several fellowships in neuroimmunology and neuropathology (UK, Germany, USA). She coordinated the National Program for Prevention and Treatment of Stroke in Poland from 1997–2008. She leads the national reference center and the registry on Wilson's disease in Poland. She was president and is now honorary president of the Polish Neurological Society. She was the president of the Central and East European Stroke Society, organizing several teaching courses and a stroke congress for this region. For a few years, she served as a member of the Directory Board of the International Stroke Society, the World Stroke Organization, and the European Stroke Organization. She was the head of the Stroke Panel in the European Federation of Neurological Societies. She is a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, American Neurological Association, American Academy of Neurology, German Society of Neurology, and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
