Joan Bech is a full professor of Atmospheric Physics at the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Barcelona (UB). He holds a PhD in Physical Sciences (UB), and his research includes the development of atmospheric remote sensing techniques, the study of precipitation processes and severe thunderstorms, and other aspects of atmospheric physics such as photobiology or the analysis of meteorological conditions associated with environmental pollution events. He has performed different studies about precipitation microphysics with laser dendrometers and vertically pointing K-band Doppler radar profilers (MRR) in international field campaigns such as Cerdanya-2017 or LIAISE-2021. He is currently a member of three editorial boards of international journals and belongs to several scientific organizations.
Sergi Gonzalez is an atmospheric scientist at the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) in Davos. He finished his PhD research at the University of Barcelona about mesoscale and microphysical precipitation processes in mountain areas. He previously worked as a meteorologist at the Spanish National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and participated in Antarctic meteorological activities for the Spanish stations. At SLF, he is working on the quantification of the atmospheric processes that occur during blowing snow events. His research interests are meteorology and climatology of mountain and polar regions including snow and precipitation processes and measurements with remote-sensing instruments, climatology, and multidisciplinary studies.
