Prof. Dr. Kyriakos E. Zoiros received the Diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in Optical Communications from the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL) at NTUA in 2000. Since 2003, he has been serving as a faculty member at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the School of Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) in Xanthi, Greece, in the subject field of optical communications. In spring 2009 he was on leave at the Optical Communications Research Group, University of Limerick, Ireland, while in fall 2013 at the Laboratoire en Sciences et Techniques de l’Information, de la Communication et de la Connaissance (LabSTICC), École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Brest (ENIB), France. He serves as a reviewer of optical communications journals, a member of advisory and examination committees of national and international PhD theses, a member of faculty election bodies and recommendation committees, an evaluator of research proposals in national and international programs, a member of technical committees and chairman of sessions in international conferences, co-organizer of conferences and Guest Editor of Special Issues in authoritative scientific journals. He constantly appears in Stanford's list of world top 2% scientists, both in the career-long and the single-year achievements category.
