Professor Li Yu received his degree in microbiology from the Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun, China, in 1981. He earned a PhD in biosphere environment from the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 2000. From 1995 to 2004, he worked as a doctoral supervisor, president, and professor at Jilin Agricultural University. He is now an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a foreign academician at the Russian Academy of Science, a professor and doctoral supervisor at Jilin Agricultural University, chairman of the International Society of Medicinal Microbiology, a member of the 4th and 5th Subject Appraisal Groups of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and editor-in-chief of “Mycology Research”, “Journal of Fungus” (until 2009), and “International Medicinal Mushroom”. He has collaborated with a broad range of national-level contributors toward science and technology, including management, education, and research. As the director of the breeding center at the mushroom industry technology station, Prof. Li is the only academician in China currently working on edible and medicinal mushroom breeding, basal fungi, and myxomycetes.
