Associate Professor Mahmoud Bakr is the ex-Director of Clinical Education (Dentistry) and an Associate Professor in General Dental Practice at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Griffith University. He received his bachelor's degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery from Cairo University in 2004 and completed his master's degree in 2010. In 2012, Associate Professor Bakr was appointed as a full-time Lecturer in General Dental Practice with a special interest in teaching Oral Biology and Head and Neck Anatomy. Associate Professor Bakr completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2014 and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2019. Currently, Associate Professor Bakr is an accredited examiner for the Australian Dental Council Examination of overseas training dentists and an approved member of the hearing panel for AHPRA notifications. Besides his teaching commitments, Mahmoud remains a clinician and continues his private dental practice within Griffith University Dental Clinics. He has also published over 55 peer-reviewed journal articles in different fields including on the effect of Botulinum toxin on different oral tissues.
Dr. Ghassan Idris is a Senior Orthodontist and the Team Lead—Orthodontics at the Children's Oral Health Specialists Services, Metro North Health at Queensland Children's Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. Dr Idris is Adjunct Associate Professor at Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia. He holds several academic and professional qualifications in orthodontics: a postgraduate diploma, and a master of philosophy from Albaath University; a clinical doctorate (DClinDent-Orth); and a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in orthodontics from the University of Otago. He holds a Membership in Orthodontics to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (MRACDS—Orth). He has practised orthodontics exclusively as an orthodontist/senior orthodontist in private, hospital, and university settings. He lectured on orthodontics at Albaath University and at the University of Otago. He currently works in Queensland Children’s Hospital, focusing on the treatment of children and adults with cleft lip and palate and other complex cranio-facial anomalies who require comprehensive orthodontic treatment and jaw surgeries. He has a wide range of expertise in early orthodontic treatments for growing patients with jaw problems, myofunctional treatments and jaw muscle functions in children, and orthodontic treatments to aid children and adults with sleep apnoea and snoring.
