Author Biographies

Prof. Milena Vesković is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Pathophysiology "Ljubodrag Buba Mihailovic", Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade University. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Belgrade in 2011, her Ph.D. in Medical Sciences at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine in 2019, and her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She has served as a Junior Teaching Assistant (2012–2014), Teaching Assistant (2014–2020), and Assistant Professor (2020–present) at the Institute of Pathophysiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. Her research interests include liver diseases, cirrhosis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, metabolic syndrome, fatty liver, NASH, and alcoholic liver disease.

Prof. Dr. Dragan Hrnčić is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. He is a specialist in internal medicine, a doctor of medical sciences, and a master of health management. He has been employed at the "Richard Burijan" Institute of Medical Physiology since 2009 in the Neurophysiology Laboratory, where he participates in all activities of the institute and all types of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He is the head of the course Physiology of Behavior, Pain and Pruritus. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Belgrade in 2008 as one of the best graduates of Belgrade University and winner of the Crown of Success Award. He completed the mandatory medical internship at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, passed the professional exam for a doctor of medicine, and was enrolled in the Medical Chamber of Serbia. He completed his specialist academic studies in 2009 at his home faculty and obtained the title of specialist doctor of medicine. He completed his doctoral academic studies at the same faculty in 2013, earning the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences. He completed his Master of Academic Studies in Management in the Health Care System at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. He is the author of the monograph "Sleep, Nutrition and Physical Activity in the Regulation of Cerebral Hyperexcitability: Translational Aspects", which was awarded by the University of Belgrade.

Prof. Dr. Dušan Mladenović is an associate professor at the Institute of Pathophysiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. He has wide experience in neurophysiology, epileptology, psychoneuroendocrinology, and hepatology. He was awarded the Annual Award for Best Young Scientist at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, in 2018. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Belgrade in 2014. Prof. Dr. Dušan Mladenović served as a teaching assistant at the Institute of Pathophysiology, Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade, from 2005 to 2015 and has been working as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Pathophysiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, since 2015. He was a supervisor of the first international joint Ph.D. thesis at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, realized in collaboration with the University of Antwerp. As a DAAD Fellow, he completed his postdoctoral training at Philipps University of Marburg, Germany, where he worked on a project related to autophagy and oxidative stress in cultured hippocampal neurons and mastered his experimental techniques of molecular medicine. Prof. Dr. Dušan Mladenović is a Secretary of the Serbian Medical Society, section Physiology and Pathophysiology.
