Madeline Isom is a Ph.D. candidate in the Chemistry
Department at The University of Kansas. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from
The University of Central Arkansas where she was a member of the Schedler
Honors College. Her current research focuses on noninvasive biomarker
exploration, mass spectrometry, and machine learning. She is a recipient of the
Madison and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship, the Thomas A. Milne Award, and the
Drs. Walter and Roy Cross Memorial Award.
Dr. Heather Desaire has been a professor in the
Chemistry Department at the University of Kansas since 2002. She received her
Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in Chemistry from
Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA. Her research interests span the fields of omics, mass spectrometry, and machine learning. Currently, she is interested in understanding the incorporation rate of generative AI into the scientific literature and improving noninvasive sampling methods for lipidomics studies. She was the recipient of the
William T. Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching (2009) and the NSF Career
