Dr. Evangelos
Papathanasiou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Periodontology at
Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM). He earned his DDS from
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2006, MS from Dental Research Tufts
University in 2011, DMD from Tufts University in 2016, and PhD from Aristotle
University of Thessaloniki in 2016. He has received specialty training in
Periodontics and Implant Surgery at TUSDM and he is a Diplomate of the American
Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery. His research involves clinical and
preclinical translational research that investigates the molecular mechanisms
of oral inflammation and wound healing to develop novel drugs that promote
tissue regeneration. He is the recipient of a K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist
Research Career Development Award by NIH/NIDCR (K08) to study “Specialized
Pro-resolving Mediators on Scarring after Cleft Lip Repair”. He has also been
the recipient of several awards and grants from Foundations and Corporations.
He leads several clinical research studies that aim to discover predictive and
prognostic biomarkers for periodontal and peri-implant disease susceptibility
and progression. He has been a lecturer at several conferences around the world
and is an author of several publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
and book chapters.
