Tarek M Abdel-Fattah holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry from Alexandria University, Egypt and a Ph.D. degree in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry from Northeastern University, Boston, USA. Currently, he is Lawrence J. Sacks Endowed Professor of Chemistry at Christopher Newport University (CNU) and the CNU Director of the Applied Research Center (ARC) at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson National Lab) research complex, Newport News, Virginia. He was the President of the Sigma Xi Tidewater Chapter of Virginia 2005-2006 and has held the Program Chair position of the chapter since 2006. Also, he was the chair of the American Chemical Society (ACS) for the Hampton Road section 2009-2010 and on the executive committee since 2000. He has been awarded the First Prize from the Physical Sciences Division of the American Association of Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has twice been awarded the American Association for Educational Engineering (NASA-ASEE) award for the summer faculty fellowship program. He was twice the recipient of the NASA Faculty Fellowship. He was awarded NASA Certificates of Recognition three times in different projects concerning nanotechnology for aerospace applications. He was the first recipient of CNU's first Annual Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship in 2012.
