Giuseppe Plazzi is currently a Full Professor of Child Neurology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena. He is also in charge of the Sleep Laboratories and of the Outpatient Clinic for Narcolepsy and CNS Hypersomnias at IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna, Bologna, Italy. He has been an Associate Professor in Neurology at the University of Bologna, where he obtained his degree as MD and his specialization in Neurology. His main areas of particular interest and expertise are devoted to the pathophysiology of Narcolepsy. He has been and still is a visiting professor at Stanford University, California. He has published more than 550 publications in peer-reviewed journals with an h-index of 78 (Scopus, May 2024). He belongs to some professional societies, namely as Chief of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Italian Association of Narcoleptic and Hypersmoniac Patients (AIN); he is President of the Italian Association of Sleep Medicine (AIMS) and the Vice-president of the European Narcolepsy Network (EU-NN).
