Gianluca Ianiro received his medical degree in 2009 summa cum laude at the Catholic University of Rome. He trained in gastroenterology at the same University. He is currently a gastroenterologist at the Digestive Disease Center of the Fondazione A. Gemelli IRCCS and an adjunct professor in gastroenterology at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, Italy. He has since gone on to establish himself as a key clinical and translational investigator focusing mainly on the field of intestinal microbiota and has received several research grants in support of his innovative research. He was the secretary or the leader of several international consensus conferences on fecal microbiota transplantation. He was in the Young Talent Group and the Research Committee, of the UEG (United European Gastroenterology), and has been awarded as UEG Rising Star in 2020. His current research is focused mainly on disentangling the rules of donor microbiome engraftment and on investigating FMT in other indications beyond C. difficile.

Andrea Giaccari is an Associate Professor of Endocrinology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Campus di Roma, Italy. He graduated MD and Ph.D. at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” under the direction of professors Umberto Di Mario and Domenico Andreani, was then mentored in the laboratories of Ralph A. DeFronzo in San Antonio Texas, and Luciano Rossetti at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He returned to Italy thanks to a grant from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and in 1995 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the Catholic University and Gemelli Hospital in Rome. In 2014, he became chief of the Clinical Unit for Endocrine-Metabolic Diseases. From 2010 to 2014 he served as a member of the Executive Council of the Italian Diabetes Society and from 2013 he became president of the Diabetes Research Association. In 2014 he began collaborating with the European Medicines Agency as an external consultant. His research interests include antidiabetic agents; empagliflozin; electron microprobe analysis; familial hypercholesterolemia; lomitapide; cholesterol; Pancreas Islet Beta Cells; Islets of Langerhans; and diabetes mellitus.
