Dr. Jürgen Junk is currently serving as the group leader of the Agro-Environmental Systems Group at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). He is primarily focused on studying the interactions between atmospheric processes and living organisms, such as plants, animals, and humans. More specifically, his main research topics include agricultural meteorology, climate change impact studies, and air quality. He earned his PhD from the University of Trier in 2007. He is a member of the International Biometeorological Society, German Meteorological Society and American Meteorological Society. For over a decade and a half, Dr. Junk has been actively involved in climate change research. Based on numerical model simulations with regional climate models, the input data for climate change assessments are generated. Based on convection-permitting high-resolution model simulation as well as relying on existing datasets such as CORDEX, the impact of climate change on Luxembourg and the Greater Region was a major topic of his research. Special focus is given to the impacts of future thermal stress and heat waves on public health, risk assessments for invasive species and vector-borne diseases.
