Katri K. Sieberg is a Professor of North American Studies and is leading the Public Policy Analysis Master’s Program in Social Science Research at Tampere University. She received her BA from Northwestern University in 1990 and her MS in Political Science and Economics from California Institute of Technology in 1992, then earned a Ph.D. from New York University in 1998. She was a Visiting Scholar at the University of North Carolina (1995–1996) and a Visiting Student at the University of Chicago (1996–19977. Her main lines of research are in experimental economics and in healthcare economics. She also uses experimental methods to explore how well our theories work and to develop extensions to theories when tests reveal that people do not behave as we expect. Her healthcare research looks at efficiencies and coverage in various types of healthcare institutions. She also explores the incentives that healthcare systems give to the various actors—doctors, patients, administrators, insurers, etc.—within them. She has used economics to explore criminal policy. She has also conducted extensive social choice research to explore how different voting methods or mechanisms can affect outcomes.
