Christian Eckert is a geospatial and atmospheric researcher with a background in remote sensing and geospatial technology. He is pursuing a PhD at Southern Cross University,
focusing on atmospheric marine boundary layer dynamics as part of the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program. Christian holds a Master's degree in Geomatics and a Bachelor's in Applied Geodesy and Geoinformatics, which are both from the Munich University of Applied Sciences. His professional experience includes roles as a cadastral surveyor and working for the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein. Christian has contributed to scientific conferences and publications and is proficient in innovative methodologies like drone-based
measurement platforms. He is also skilled in fine woodworking and holds multiple certifications, including a CASA Remote Pilot Licence and a PADI Divemaster qualification.
Professor Brendan P. Kelaher is a marine biologist with more than 25 years of experience
and the Chief Remote Pilot for Southern Cross University. Brendan received his first-class
honours degree and PhD from the University of Sydney. His current research program encompasses marine ecology, global change biology and fisheries management. Brendan’s research also focuses drone-based marine science, including marine wildlife monitoring, nearshore habitat mapping with LiDAR and photogrammetry, shark bite mitigation, AI-based coral bleaching analysis and atmospheric characterisation. Brendan’s university teaching includes subjects focused on marine megafauna, drone technology, and marine science and management.
