Dr. Pasi K. Korhonen is a Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne, where he conducts genomic research on parasitic organisms. He initially completed a Master’s program in Computer Science and began his career in Finland in the 1990s, working for Nokia in various roles in software development, project management, and line management. He gained international experience in Düsseldorf, Germany, and Melbourne, Australia. From 2007 to 2011, while still working, he completed a Bachelor's in Biochemistry and a Master’s in Bioinformatics. In 2012, he relocated to Melbourne to work with Prof. Robin Gasser at the University of Melbourne, where he earned his PhD in Bioinformatics in Parasitology in 2016. He has held an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship and has been a Chief Investigator on an ARC grant. Currently, he applies advanced bioinformatics and machine learning to multi-omics and single-cell data to conduct detailed studies on these pathogens.

Robin Gasser is an eminent veterinary scientist. He is a Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor at the University of Melbourne. His fundamental research has generated deep knowledge and understanding about the biology of parasites, their interactions with their hosts, and the diseases they cause by applying and integrating a range of advanced technologies to explore their genomes and function. His achievements include the identification of a range of novel targets for antiparasitic drug development. He has used this extensive fundamental research to underpin the development of innovative methods for the diagnosis, treatment, and control of socioeconomically important parasitic diseases in animals and humans for subsequent translation and commercialization.
