Türkay Gökgöz, BA (Yildiz Technical University, 1991), MA (Istanbul Technical University, 1994), PhD (Yildiz Technical University, 1999), is a Professor in the Geomatic Engineering Department, Yildiz Technical University. His dominant field is cartographic generalization. He has studied analytical cartography, digital terrain modelling, terrain analysis, the algorithmic foundations of geographic information systems, and prehistoric maps for about 30 years. He has refereed several papers and gives several lectures. He received a short-term research scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austausschdienst (DAAD) to the Institute for Cartography and Geoinformation at the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1996.
