David Horton, Jr. is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He holds a PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida. In his most recent academic role, he served as a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Ohio University. In that role, he mentored several graduate and undergraduate students. He chaired 14 dissertation committees, assisting 5 of them to complete their degree before he left the university in 2018. He has also served on 18 dissertation committees and two master's thesis committees. In addition to being a strong mentor, his research interest centers on the higher education curricular and co-curricular experiences of students of color, the experiences of faculty with a focus on mid-career faculty and faculty of color, and students of color along the engineering pathway. He has written or co-written over 25 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and invited papers on these topics. Within his research he has developed or co-created databases using qualitative methods, as well as used large secondary data sets that allow for various quantitative methods to answer research questions of interest.
