Prof. Dr. Madalena Vieira-Pinto is a European Veterinary Specialist in Veterinary Public Health—Subspecialty Food Science. She has been a Professor in the Veterinarian Science Department (UTAD) for meat inspection and food safety. Additionally, she is the scientific coordinator and trainer of several advanced training courses for veterinarians and hunters in the field of game meat inspection with the cooperation and validation of the Veterinarian National Authority. She is an integrated member (since 2006) of the Animal and Veterinary Research Centre, UTAD, and coordinated the Research Group on Food Quality and Safety and Public Health from 2010 to 2013. She is the current Vice Director of this Research Center. Its main research focus is zoonoses and zoonotic agents, diseases shared between wild game and livestock, meat inspection in slaughtered (and hunted) animals for human consumption (mainly game, swine, and poultry), and animal welfare. She is responsible for several protocols that aim to promote collaborative work, development, and training in food hygiene and safety. Since July 2015, she has been responsible for the service of Trichinella analyses at the Laboratory of Technology, Quality, and Food Safety Laboratory at UTAD. Her research topics mainly include meat inspection, zoonoses and zoonotic agents, game meat hygiene, and animal welfare.
