Author Biographies

Shin Kataoka received his PhD in Chinese linguistics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2010. He worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong (2012-2024) and as a Japanese instructor at Language Center, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1997-2004). His research topics mainly include Cantonese linguistics, cross-cultural communication, and missionary linguistics. He has co-authored several publications with Yin-Ping Lee: 1. A Shortcut to Cantonese (Greenwood); 2. Fun with Cantonese series (Greenwood); 4.Selected Cantonese Publications by Western Missionaries in China (1828-1927) (T.T.Ng Chinese Language Research Centre, CUHK); and 5. Hong Kong-style Japanese (Joint Publishing).
Lee Yin Ping received her MA in Chinese linguistics from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994. She worked as a Cantonese Instructor at City University of Hong Kong (2011-2014), Chinese Language Centre and Independent Learning Centre, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2007-2010, 1990-2000) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2010-2011, 2001-2005). Her research topics mainly include: Teaching Cantonese as a foreign language, and Japanese-based loanwords in Cantonese. She has co-authored several publications with Shin Kataoka: 1.
