Michel Le Van Quyen was born in Paris, France, in June 1966. He obtained his master's degree in electrical engineering from Sup Télécom Bretagne in 1990 and his PhD in Cognitive Neurosciences from the University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France, in 1996, under the supervision of Francisco Varela (LENA, CNRS UPR 640). Following this, Dr. Le Van Quyen worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, for three years, under the supervision of Peter Grassberger. In 2000, he was appointed as a research scientist at the National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM). In 2019, he was promoted to research director at the Laboratoire d’Imagerie Biomédicale (LIB), INSERM Unit 1146, at Sorbonne Université, Paris, France. Throughout his academic career, his research has primarily focused on developing new quantitative analyses of electrophysiological signals, including microelectrode SUA/MUA/LFP, intracranial and scalp EEG, aimed at improving the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of epilepsy. He has authored or co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and holds five patents.
