Marco A. M. Freire obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA/Brazil) (2000), a University extension course in Evolution and Developmental Biology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ/Brazil) (2002), a Master's degree in Biological Sciences Master's degree at UFPA, with sandwich period at the UFRJ (2003) and Ph.D. in Neurosciences and Cell Biology at UFPA (2006) and in Physiological Sciences at the University of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN/Brazil), with sandwich period at the Virginia Commonwealth University (USA) (2024). He obtained a Scholarship, Regional Scientific Development (CNPq/Brazil) (2004). He was a Visiting Researcher - Universidad de Chile (Chile) (2009). He was a Postdoctoral fellow in Neurophysiology - Yale University (USA) (2012). He was a Postdoctoral fellow in Experimental Neuropathology - University of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN/Brazil) (2016).
