Prof. Dr. Frédéric Kaplan directs the College of Humanities at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). He also holds the chair of Digital Humanities and is president of the Time Machine Organization, a non-profit organization of over 600 institutions. He is a Member of the EPFL Academic Strategic Committee. His research interests include Digital Humanities, Big data, Venice Time Machine, Handwritten Text Recognition, 3D reconstruction, and Mass digitization.
Prof. Dr. Katrin Beyer now is a dean of ENAC. She studied civil engineering at ETH Zurich, where she obtained a diploma with distinction in 2001. She then worked for two years for the ARUP consulting firm in London on projects related to structural dynamics, impacts, and seismic analysis. In 2003, she enrolled at the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS) in Pavia, Italy, earning a Master’s degree in earthquake engineering, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Pavia in 2007. She then returned to ETH Zurich to work as a post-doctoral researcher. She is a member of the executive committee of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering and a co-founder of the startup SwissInspect. Her research interests include seismic engineering, masonry structures, reinforced concrete structures, and dynamics of structures.
