Prof. Gunilla Westergren-Thorsson has been a Professor of medical cell biology at Lund University since 2009 and the head of the Department of Experimental Medical Science since 2007. Her research focuses on airway inflammation and especially the pathological healing process in chronic inflammation in the lung. She has experience both as a teacher and administrator in the faculty’s courses, including as director of studies for the program in biomedicine.
Prof. Dr. Leif Bjermer is a professor and senior physician at VO Pulmonary Medicine and Allergology, Lund, Skåne University Hospital. He is a specialist in pulmonary medicine and allergology and has been working at the University Hospital in Lund since 2002. Before that, he was for 10 years professor and head of the pulmonary section at the Regional Hospital in Trondheim, Norway. He conducts active research into disease mechanisms in the field of asthma and COPD and in addition runs a clinical trial unit where they test tomorrow's medications in the field. Sports medicine with the theme of asthma development in athletes is another exciting area. He is also involved in the development of a regional competence center in the fields of allergies, asthma, and COPD.
Prof. Dr. Jaro Ankerst is a Slovene professor of medicine and senior consultant. He received the degrees of Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Lund, Sweden. He was appointed as an associate professor in tumor virology at the University of Lund (1972–1982), an associate professor in medicine, (1982–1989), a clinical teacher in medicine (1989–1991), a senior lecturer, consultant medical (1991–2007), and has been a Professor and senior consultant at the University Hospital Lund, Sweden, since 2007. He has been listed as a noteworthy professor of medicine and senior consultant by Marquis Who's Who. Additionally, he is a member of the Swedish Medical Association.
Dr. Anna-Karin Larsson-Callerfelt is an Associate Professor in experimental pulmonary medicine in the group of Lung Biology at Lund University. After finishing her undergraduate studies (Master of Medical Science in Toxicology) at Karolinska Institutet in 2002, she began her studies as a PhD student in the group of Professor Sven-Erik Dahlén, Experimental Asthma and Allergy Research, at Karolinska Institutet. In 2007, she defended her thesis entitled ”Nitric Oxide and Eicosanoids: Significance and Interactions During Antigen-Induced Responses in Peripheral Lung Tissue”. In the Lung Biology group, her research focuses on mechanisms behind pathological changes in chronic lung disorders, such as asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
