He obtained a MSc (Appl. Mech.—Cracow Univ. Techn., 1980; Theor. Physics—Jagiellonian Univ., 1980), PhD (Appl. Mech.—Cracow Univ. Techn., 1986), and DSc (Appl Mech—Cracow Univ. Techn., 1992), Habilitation, and he was a Professor of Technical Sciences (President of Poland)—2004. He carries out work in the following areas: optimal design, beams, plates, shells, pressure vessels, composite materials and structures, sandwich structures, nanostructures, FEM analysis, buckling, fuzzy logic, thermal analysis, experimental analysis (static), fatigue, piezoelectric transducers, FGM.
He was a supervisor of 12 PhD theses—first in 2002; last in 2021; chair of 7 scientific grants; and an author of 165 papers cited in Scopus (h=23) and 79 papers in Polish. He has received 3 prizes from the Polish Ministry of Education and Science for scientific achievements in 1999, 2004 and 2021. He was cited 5 times among the 2% of the best scientists in the world (Scopus, Stanford). He is on the Edit. Board J. of Composites Part C and of Mech of Composite Materials; was the head of the Institute of Machine Design (CUT) 2011–2021; and was a referee 150 times at scientific conferences. He received scholarships from the University of Liverpool (1986-88) and DTH Lyngby (1992). He completed ten scientific visits that were longer than 1 week. He built a laboratory to study the failure modes of composite materials and structures—vacuum bag method, MTS machine, acoustic emission, thermal analysis, DIC. He was employed at Mech. Eng. Faculty from 1980 to 2021. At present, he is working at the Faculty of Material Eng. and Physics, Department of Physics.
