Author Biographies

Claudio Urrea was born in Santiago, Chile. He received M.Sc.Eng. and Dr. degrees from the University of Santiago of Chile, in 1999 and 2003, respectively; and a Ph.D. degree from the Institut National Polytechnique of Grenoble, France, in 2003. Urrea has been a Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Santiago of Chile, since 1998. He has developed and implemented a Robotics Laboratory, where intelligent robotic systems are developed and investigated. Currently, he is a Full Professor and holds the position of Director of the Instrumentation Center and Electronic Development at the University of Santiago of Chile.
Yainet Garcia-Garcia was born in Camagüey, Cuba. She received a B.Eng. degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2014 and a B.Eng. degree in Telecommunications and Electronics in 2019, both from Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas, Villa Clara, Cuba. She received an M.Sc. degree in Signals and Systems from the same university in 2020. She was a professor at Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas, Villa Clara, Cuba. She has been a doctoral student at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universidad de Santiago de Chile, since 2021. Her research interests include nonlinear control systems, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
John Kern was born in Santiago, Chile. He received his MSE and a PhD from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Santiago, Chile, in 2010 and 2013, respectively, and completed his postdoctoral studies in 2014 at the same institution. His research topic was fault-tolerant systems. He is a Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universidad de Santiago de Chile, in the areas of automatic control and robotics. He has developed laboratories on control systems theory, signals and communication systems, and electronics. Since 2016, he has served as the Head of the Laboratory of Process Control. He is currently the Director of the Doctoral Program in Engineering Sciences with a mention in Automation, at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
