Author Biographies

Marin Berovič, Full-time Professor (1998 - 2016) of Biotechnology and Bioengineering in the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering. He obtained a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering, from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, TU Graz and University of Ljubljana. He is a Member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Slovenia. His expertise includes biochemical engineering, bioreactors, rheology and the instrumentation of bioprocesses, solid state bioprocessing, medicinal mushrooms and wine process engineering. He has specialized in TU Graz, TU Delft-Leiden, TU Hannover, TU Denmark, Lyngby and Strathclyde University. He was also a Guest Professor at Pontificia Universidad Chatolica de Santiago de Chile, the Chairman of the European Society on Biochemical Engineering Sciences and Executive Board Member of the European Federation on Biotechnology (2005–2008), and the Vice-Chairman of the International Organization on Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He is the Founder and Lecturer of the Doctoral/Postdoctoral EU Bioprocess Engineering Course (1989-2024). He has been awarded several prizes for innovations, research and development in biochemical engineering. He is a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
