Mark S. Williamson is a Proleptic Lecturer with the Department of Mathematics and the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter. He earned his BSc in Oceanography with Physics from the University of Southampton, his MSc in Optics and Photonics from the Imperial College London, and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Leeds. Prior to joining the University of Exeter, he served as a Research Assistant at the National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton (2002–2004); a Research Assistant at the Department of Environmental Sciences, UEA (2004–2005); the Schroedinger Junior Research Fellow at the Erwin Schroedinger Institute for Mathematical Physics and the Department of Physics, University of Vienna (2010–2011); a Research Fellow at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford (2010–2012); a Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Technologies, National University of Singapore (2009–2014); and then joined the University of Exeter in 2014. His main present interests are tipping points in the climate system and the use of emergent constraints to reduce uncertainty in future climate projections.
