Dr. Venuprasad
Ramaiah is the current leader of the Fit-for-Future Genetic Resources cluster
at the International Rice Research Institute. He also oversees the operation of
the International Rice Genebank, which is the world’s largest collection of
rice genetic diversity and contains over 132,000 available accessions. Prior to
joining IRRI, he worked as a Principal Scientist at Africa Rice Center
(AfricaRice), where he was a rainfed lowland rice breeder for West and Central
Africa. During his tenure, he was able to release eight rice varieties in
Nigeria, Madagascar, Gambia, and Sierra Leone. Dr. Ramaiah earned his Doctor of
Philosophy in Genetic and Plant Breeding from the University of Agricultural
Science Bangalore, India. He also completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Data
Science from the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore,
India.
