Tytti Vuorinen is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Biomedicine, Turku University. She obtained her Doctor of Medical Sciences (PhD) from the Department of Virology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku in 1996 and a Specialist in Clinical Microbiology in 2002. In 2005, she became a Docent in Virology at the University of Turku. She was a member of a sub-committee for developing professional education in medicine (2000–2005), a member of a developing education task force for undergraduates in dentistry (2003–2007), the quality assurance supervisor at the Institute of Microbiology and Pathology (2005–2010), and the head of the virus diagnostic laboratory at the University of Turku (2009–2015). She has been the chief physician in Medical Microbiology at Turku University Hospital since 2015. Her scientific interests are mainly based on viral pathogenesis and clinical virology. Her special interest is Picornaviruses, which are important human pathogens.
Cezmi A. Akdis is a medical researcher in the field of immunology. He is the director of the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos, Switzerland. He has been an Ordinarius Professor at the University of Zürich Medical Faculty since 2006 and one of the directors of the Christine Kühne-Center for Allergy Research and Education in Davos, Switzerland. He received his medical degree from Uludag University Medical Faculty, Bursa, Turkey in 1985. He specialized in infectious disease and clinical microbiology in 1991 and immunology at Uludag University in 1994 and was further named a Venia Legendi (Habilitation) at the University of Zürich in 2001. He was the President of the European Academy of Allergy & Clinical between 2011 and 2013 and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Allergy, a position he has held since 2018. His research keywords include cellular immunology, inflammation and immunology.
